I started playing guitar when I was 8 years old and was in my first band at age 12. I’ve never stopped loving music, and guitar in particular. I guess I played my first paying gig when I was 13. After leaving college at age 22, I played several nights a week, while doing some sort of other job on the side (like restaurant work or carpentry). Around age 27 to 30 I played full time (5 hours a night, 6 nights a week) in top Seattle lounge bands. After that I played solo around Seattle and other areas in Washington State for a couple years. After moving to Tokyo in 1989, I hooked up with another American in a Beatles-only duo, and after that I played solo about once a week there. Since that time I’ve always been interested in playing out more, but my tastes and standards have changed, the music environment has changed and there is much less of a sense of urgency. These days I occasionally sit in with blues, pop and jazz groups in Thailand, where I’ve lived since 2006. I also have a few guitar students.
